“I look at myself like a tree that grows, you know? A lot of things have those same roots, but I’m growing and developing new ideas and concepts every day. I felt that back then, I was young and playing from a lot of things that I’d heard before and I was working with a lot of people who were instilling things in me. Great cats like Raphael Saadiq and ?uestlove and Dr. Dre and all of the incredible cats that I’ve worked with. And I guess now, I’m producing a lot more and writing a lot more on my own, and I’m producing with other producers as opposed to being produced. So I have a lot more say now than I did in the beginning, so you could say that’s the difference.”
